Steff

I’m a small town Iowa girl who married the love of my life and polar opposite. After significant struggles with unexplained infertility, we have been blessed with a 5-year-old boy and twin toddler boys. I’m now a working mom of three (with a stressful, ever-changing job) trying to navigate the chaos I call life.

I love coffee, wine, country music, concerts and the increasingly uncommon girls night out or date night. I‘ve always loved to travel, but now with three kids, the thought of that is actually a bit nauseating. I really love to sleep, which makes dry shampoo my best friend. And as much as I love a great pair of yoga pants, I also really love to get dressed up and look nice… but I do require a decent reason to go through the effort.

When I’m not at work or at home with my family, you can probably find me impulse shopping at Target, at bible study with my girls, the nail salon, or a local coffee shop.

My life is stressful, silly and far from perfect, but I love every minute of it. Eeh, that’s a lie. Sometimes I want to rip my hair out, but I do love almost every minute of it. I’m really trying to embrace the chaos of Team Sumrall.

RJ

RJ grew up in Orlando, Florida and moved to Iowa to play football at Iowa State. We met as seniors in college and married a couple years later.   After a short tenure in retail and corporate America, he finally found his calling working for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He works with coaches and athletes in the Des Moines area and the Iowa State Football team. There is literally no job more perfect for him.

He loves his family, friends and takes a lot of pride in being an excellent husband and father! He has so much energy and is always happy and upbeat – I don’t know how he does it. He’s hilarious and ridiculous, often acting like a fourth, oversized man-child. He’s never normal on the first photo we take (which makes me bananas), and has been known to chase me around Target with fart guns and successfully complete some pretty epic photobombs.

All silly aside, he’s also the most supportive and wonderful husband and father and I wouldn’t change a thing – most days.

Jackson

In 2012, Jackson made me a mom for the very first time. He is hilarious, wild, and never stops moving. He’s also very sensitive with a huge heart and gives the world’s greatest hugs. He loves cars, drive-in movies, weekends (that he calls mommy-daddy days), roughhousing with his dad, building elaborate Magnatile castles and playing tag. His imagination is out of this world and he says the funniest things…. There truly is never a dull moment when he’s around.

Brecken & Parker

These two sweet babies made me a boy-mom three times over. Parker is technically our middle child, clocking in one whole minute older than Brecken. They are getting bigger and more adventurous every day their little personalities are really starting to show!

People always ask about their names. Let me just tell you, picking names for multiples is so much harder than picking names for a singleton! Not just twice as hard… it's more like 4x as hard! You want them to be similar enough that they roll off the tongue nicely together (think mom-voicing their names when they’re both busted for doing something they’re not supposed to), but not too similar that it gets confusing or they don’t have their own identities. We also wanted their names to be meaningful and represent both of our families.

I lost my dad a few years ago and I wanted both babies to have a little of him in their names, just as Jackson does (Jackson shares my dad’s middle name). Many of my favorite childhood memories with my dad, family and close family-friends include our group trips to Breckenridge, CO, where we went nearly every fall growing up. Enter – Brecken. His middle name is Montgomery, which is RJ’s middle name. He has a piece of us both. We then decided that Brecken would be our ‘Baby B’.

Once we decided on Brecken, we talked a lot about RJ’s favorite vacation places. He didn’t travel a lot as a kid, but one of his favorite vacations was our trip to Estes Park, Colorado. Enter – Parker – our sweet, little Baby A. Parker’s middle name is Steven, after my dad. Although he is the spitting image of RJ's brother (only significantly lighter skinned), he, too, has a piece of us both.

The twins couldn’t look more different or have more different personalities, but we sure love them beyond words and are eternally grateful to God for all three of our beautiful boys.
